Pink Floyd, “Wish You Were Here”

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon... Pink Floyd, “Wish You Were Here” #vinyl Album was so popular that the parent record company EMI was unable to print enough copies to satisfy the U.K. and the U.S. Written entirely by always cheery Roger Waters. Alan Parsons who was the engineer on Dark Side of the Moon (previous studio album) declined the offer to work on this album. So naturally they used Brian Humphries who they worked with before on “More”... but... the catch was that Humphries had never worked at EMI Abbey Road studios before. So they had some problems at first... he accidentally ruined the backing tracks for “Shine On”. But no matter the album turned out fantastic. The band at the time was exhausted and overwhelmed from the success of Dark Side. Band members were getting frustrated with each other. Drummer Nick Mason’s marriage was failing... things were falling apart... and they had a bit of writer’s block. The day the band was completing the mix for “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”... for those who don’t know, the song is a tribute to Syd Barrett... (their original lead singer, who some believe may have literally lost his mind... from enjoying too many chemical trappings of the scene they rose from.) Waters said, “An overweight man with shaven head and eyebrows entered carrying a plastic bag” and the band did not recognize the man... it was Syd Barrett. Ever watched Pink Floyd “The Wall” movie?... shaved eyebrows... just saying. You come to your own conclusions. #audiophile#vinylrecords #nowplaying #hifi#stereo #pinkfloyd #wishyouwerehere
