Dusty Springfield, “Dusty in Memphis”

Dusty Springfield, “Dusty in Memphis”. This was the English singer’s 5th album. While one might assume the 5th should be child’s play for the singer... she was terrified. This album was supposed to reinvigorate her career, and she returned to her soul roots. She later said she was worried about being compared to the Soul greats who had recorded in the same studio... actually her final vocals were recorded in New York and not Memphis. Sidebar: While recording in Memphis Dusty suggested to the execs at Atlantic Records that they should check out her friend John’s band... largely on Dusty’s recommendation they signed her friend John’s band. That particular John... John Paul Jones... Of Led Zeppelin. Yes Led Zeppelin was signed for $200k. Ironically this album is heralded as one of the greatest albums of all time... but it just did ok ish when released. The album finally received a Grammy award in 2001. #dustyspringfield#dustyinmemphis #audiophile #hifi#nowplaying #soul #vinyl#vinylcollection #musicdiscovery#instavinyl
