#aboutlastnight Part 4 of 4. I received an invitation for last night that I just couldn’t pass up. Let’s call this Room Two part two, but this is dessert... Clearly one needs the proper accompaniment to such Wilson Audio and dCS delicacies... certain pairings of equipment just can’t be beat. This is not my first time hearing the Audio Research Reference 160M mono blocks (I cannot express how much I enjoy stating that). These amplifiers... ok let me start with the obvious!,... these are the coolest, sexiest meters currently in existence in my opinion. To top these meters someone is going to have to come up with a hologram. Let’s just admit it, we like looking at tubes, lights, things that move In unison so to speak with what we hear. It’s ok to admire the aesthetics... specially when it’s backed up by super transparent sound. In the previous post I mentioned there were some stand out moments and mentioned Yo-yo Ma... well imagine a track that makes those gorgeous meters just dance like you can’t imagine. Let me be clear... I really really wish I knew the name of this track, to the point that I have been combing through Mickey Hart material searching for it. So Mickey Hart, one of two drummers for The Grateful Dead, also happens to document percussion from all over the world.. well whatever this mystery track was the dynamics were insane, those subtle drum.. initially building into literal thunder, zero hint of smear, just rapid life like decay. The dCS gear feeding into the Audio Research gear into their 160M’s into the Sasha DAWs... let’s just say it’s an experience I will soon not forget.
