Bill Evans Trio, “Sunday at the Village Vanguard”

There is just something about an eerily realistic recording. There are so many more variables in a live recording. All presenting potential perils to the illusion of “being there”. Sometimes the musicians sound great, but then the crowd applauds and live illusion crumbles. Etc, etc. But there are other recordings that not only beautifully capture the musicians, but also all the nuances of being there in the crowd. All further adding to the #audiophile illusion of “being there”. Ok, so this was recorded in 1961, so we can’t be there, but the recording is impeccable, plus glasses clanging in the background, some subtle chatter at what sounds like the bar. You’re there, with them, and it’s happening in your room, now! Bill Evans Trio, “Sunday at the Village Vanguard”. #Jazz #Live If you are not a jazz aficionado, this album is as safe and amazing as it gets. It’s largely regarded as one of the best live jazz recordings. Period! Bill Evans, drummer Paul Motian, and highly featured (in the album) bassist Scott LaFaro... who died ten days after this performance war recorded, in a car accident. Early on, pay attention to LaFaro’s bass... sure it’s a chill yet lively jazz album... but LaFaro is absolutely shredding on the bass. #hifi #stereo#billevanstrio Enjoy! #vinyl#vinylrecords
